WANDERING BANQUETS
CULINARY PERFORMING ARTS
They are like wandering sculptures, preparing and serving fabulous, healthy food.
Wandering Banquets is the brainchild of Marlein Overakker and Inez de Jong, two Amsterdam artists, performing in museums, galleries, events, private parties and anywhere else needed adapting to the surrounding. In their work the audience can really enjoy being served, for the food is costumized for the occasion to interact with the environment.
The are the female archetypes in grotesk dresses.
The metal mouth caps they wear are created by the Spanish metal-artist and corsetmaker Manuel Albarran.
One of the many types of dresses they designed is "De Soepjurk" (the Soupdress) a delicious soup will be served from the dress into soup bowls made out of bread dough.
They can create up to a six course dinner, where each course is served out of a different costume... presenting the food without making any comment, playing with the anonymity in the crowd.
Sometimes the guests can take the fingerfood directly from their costumes or when necessary assisted by helpful concubines. and no plates will be needed.
